Iman Jemal: Co-President

My name is Iman, and I am one of AMWA’s 2025–2026 Co-Presidents! I am a fourth-year student majoring in Psychobiology with a minor in Global Health. I joined AMWA in my second year to access useful resources and find a supportive community while pursuing my interest in medicine. Outside of AMWA, I volunteer at a hospital and with children through UNICEF. I also work as a research assistant on research projects in global health and neurodevelopmental disabilities. In my free time, I love hiking, watching films, and exploring LA.

Alitzel Martinez: Co-President

Hi! My name is Alitzel Martinez, and I’m a fourth year Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology major from Los Angeles. I’m proud to say that I’ve been involved in AMWA throughout my entire undergraduate career and currently serve as one of this year’s Co-Presidents! As a freshman, I was immediately drawn to AMWA by the driven, welcoming women who created such a supportive community and made me feel supported. Through the wide variety of events that AMWA offers and the lasting connections I’ve built over the years, I’ve been able to navigate my pre-medical journey while remaining continuously inspired. Serving as Co-President this year has been incredibly rewarding, as it has given me the opportunity to provide support, resources, and meaningful connections to other future leaders and physicians. Outside of AMWA, I research small cell neuroendocrine prostate and lung cancer in the Witte Laboratory, shadow in the cardiothoracic ICU at Ronald Reagan, and work at the hilltop shop on campus! During my free time, I enjoy catching up with friends, going on runs/working out, trying new cafes, and going to concerts!

Mia Uller: Internal Vice President

I joined AMWA my freshman year because I had an amazing TA (shoutout to former president Eva!) who promoted the club as a great way to connect with other women in medicine and find opportunities at UCLA. During my time in the club I've grown so much both professionally and socially, and I always look forward to our meetings as a time to disconnect from the stressful premed environment and bond with our awesome members. Currently, I'm working on collaborating with other organizations to establish volunteering opportunities between AMWA and local women's centers (so stay tuned for future events!). I'm also involved in MDHI, EMRA, scribing, and research, so please ask if you have any questions about any of these! In my free time, I love getting outside through mountain biking, hiking, and skiing, reading sci-fi/fantasy novels, playing board and card games, and any and all dogs.

Ellsha Johnston: Finance Director

I’m currently AMWA's Finance Director, and I initially joined AMWA because I wanted to be surrounded by other women pursuing similar goals in healthcare and medicine, and I have stayed in AMWA because the community here genuinely makes me feel more ambitious and motivated to keep striving toward our pre-health aspirations. Everyone in AMWA is admirable, and I often find myself respecting the work ethic and drive of many of our members. Outside of school and AMWA, I love to crochet and also spend some time outdoors, whether it be shelling on the beaches when I am at home in Hawaii or hiking in the mountains and taking spontaneous road trips with friends when I'm in California.

Kaylee Smith: Community Service Director

I love being the community service director for AMWA because it is a way for me and our members to give back to the LA community. It is so fun being able to hang out with other members while also volunteering at so many cool events like 5Ks and food banks. Professionally outside of AMWA I have been working towards my goal of becoming a PA by working as a PT aide, acquiring volunteer hours at Ronald Reagan Hospital, and having a board position on the Pre-PA Club at UCLA. Just for fun I love to spend time with my friends and family and I also like to spend my time outside at a lake or hiking and camping.

Kaitlyn Cerwinski: Co-Professional Development Chair

Hi! I’m the Professional Development Co-Director, and I love helping create opportunities that support and empower women interested in medicine. Outside of AMWA, I work as a Research Assistant in the UCLA Addictions Lab and am currently completing a research project through the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program focused on smoking cessation. I’m also part of FAST, a fashion club on campus, where I’m on the Events Committee, helping raise money for our end of year fashion show. In my free time, I love thrifting, checking out record stores, and going to concerts whenever I can!

Hi! My name is Maria and I'm a third year MCDB major. I joined AMWA because I wanted to find a welcoming community that provides support and opportunities for pre-med students! I'm interested in health justice and women's health, and hope to be a physician one day. Outside of class, I'm involved in developmental biology research, and volunteering/teaching!

In my free time, I love going to concerts/festivals, reading, and watching k-dramas! Abigail Ayala: Internal Mentorship Chair

Hi everybody! I am Abigail Ayala, a 3rd year human biology and society major pre-med student hoping to pursue a career in pediatric oncology! As a first generation student, being pre-med felt so daunting and I didn’t feel very knowledgeable about the steps I needed take, which is why I originally joined AMWA. Since joining I have not only learned so much but also made great connections with girls I now call my best friends. Inside of AMWA, I am working on creating sisterhood events for members within our club and ensuring everyone gets the opportunity to make those connections I was luckily able to. Outside of AMWA I work for Kaplan Test Prep as a student brand ambassador and give tours to kids kindergarten through 8th grade as a Cub Tour Guide! I also shadow doctors at UCLA Santa Monica hospital on the weekends while also volunteering as a UCLA care extender, both of which have deepened my passion for the field of medicine. Outside of school you can find me anywhere there is coffee, a country concert or a beach. LA isn’t my hometown so while here for college there’s nothing I love more than taking advantage of all it has to offer, especially with the constant sunny weather!

Alexis Biagetti: Co-Publicity Chair

Hi! My name is Alexis and I'm a 3rd year here, I am pre PA and passionate about women's health and health equity in America. Outside of AMWA I'm interested in politics, travel (I just got back from studying abroad!), music, books, movies, podcasts, any type of media really. My current obsession is Casa de Papel (Money Heist)! I'm also the co-publicity director for AMWA, so I work with Archana to run our ig and website! I was drawn to AMWA because I have no family members or close adults who are in healthcare, so I really needed a way to get mentorship and connections. I hope you guys love this org as much as I do!

Kimberly Jorge: Co-Director of Sonriendo con el Corazón

This is my second year being co-director for the Sonriendo Committe and hope to expand the areas we service to set up a bridge for furthuring the scope of the committee. I was drawn into AMWA as I wanted a non-competitive pre-med space, and it was a bonus that it was all women led as we are able to push and motivate one another to our future goals. I am part of another club on campus called FISH and am involved in the Hayes Lab studying lung adenocarcinomas. When I am not in class, club meetings, or lab I love going to the beach and exploring LA. I also have been drawn into music festivals and raves as you meet incredible people there and have met so many new friends in such spaces.
